Last Friday, Junior Diamond Valley Eagles suited up for one of the biggest basketball tournaments the country has to offer, the Eltham/Dandenong Australia Day Weekend tournament. Teams from all over the country participated in this historical tournament, that spanned from Friday 25th January until Monday 28th January.

Out of our 44 VJBL Eagles squads, 23 of our teams made it to their respective final’s games for their division. 11 of those teams even made it to their division’s Grand Final, which is an incredible result!

Alan McAughtry, Director of Coaching at Diamond Valley Basketball, gave us his thoughts on the weekends success:

“Over the weekend, we welcomed back our teams and coaches with our entry into the Eltham / Dandenong Tournament. It was a great weekend of basketball, which began on Friday night and ran through to the Grand Finals on Monday night. Travelling around, I was able to catch up with most of our coaches and was able to spend time on the bench with a number of our players, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I did manage to see a lot of games and was pleased to see how our teams competed and how dedicated the coaches and staff were to prepare their teams. Our work to develop all players will continue, and overall it was a very successful weekend for the Eagles! I want to thank all involved and congratulate our teams, coaches & referees on a great tournament.”

Congratulations to the following teams for going all the way to the Grand Final:
