Diamond Valley Basketball Association, in partnership with Nillumbik Shire Council and Aligned Leisure, is proud to announce the official naming of the show court at Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre as “The Brian Harvey Show Court.”

This naming recognises the extraordinary contribution of Life Member Brian Harvey, whose passion, leadership and dedication helped shape basketball at Diamond Valley and across Victoria for decades.

Brian was a deeply respected and much-loved figure within the basketball community. As a long-time manager of Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre, his influence extended well beyond administration. Brian was the founder of the Civic League, which awarded the Jarrott Kane Harvey Memorial Trophy in honour of his late son, and for many years was widely regarded as the strongest senior domestic competition in the state. He was also the creator of the Great Australian Shootout, an elite Under 20 tournament that ran for more than a decade and attracted teams from across Australia and internationally. His contribution to representative basketball was equally significant. Brian played a key role in the committees that helped the Diamond Valley Eagles join the CVIBL competition, and worked closely with Coburg and Eltham to establish the North East Melbourne Arrows. His vision also extended overseas, with deep connections to Iowa basketball in particular, helping forge touring opportunities for Eagles teams and expanding horizons for countless players, coaches and administrators.

Brian’s legacy is defined not just by the programs and competitions he built, but by the people he inspired which included his eight beautiful grandchildren. His warmth, humour, generosity and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

The naming of The Brian Harvey Show Court is a fitting and permanent tribute to a man whose life was dedicated to the growth of basketball and community sport. This legacy project was made possible through the shared commitment and collaboration of DVBA, Nillumbik Council and Aligned Leisure, reflecting the respect Brian commanded across all levels of the sport.

DVBA also acknowledges Brian’s family — Josie, Ben, Jayden and J’Rhette — whose support and connection to the association remain deeply valued.

Dad was a true legend of the game, an inspiring mentor and role model who influenced countless athletes, coaches and administrators who all looked up to Dad. This tribute reflects his lifelong passion for the sport and the community he loved. It means so much to our family to see his legacy recognised in this way, and we know Dad would have absolutely loved to see this. As Dad always said, ‘If you build it, they will come,’ which Dad absolutely did. Thank you to Diamond Valley from the bottom of our hearts. It means so much to our family, as Diamond Valley has been our second home and always will be.”

Brian Harvey’s name will now sit at the heart of Diamond Valley Basketball, ensuring his contribution is forever remembered and celebrated by generations to come.
