Clash of the Rivals 2025!
Is Anything Better Than a clash of the rivals in the NbL1 South Season Diamond Valley Vs Eltham?
If you haven’t felt the heat of this rivalry, now’s your chance. One of the most anticipated games in the NBL1 South fixture returns for season 2025, Diamond Valley Eagles vs Eltham Wildcats – a battle fueled by pride, legacy, and grassroots passion.
Set for this Saturday night, 3rd of May at the Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre, this rivalry round is about more than just 2 games of basketball. With the women tipping off at 6pm and the men at 8pm, the night ending in the awarding of the coveted O’Connor Cukier Cup – a unique trophy that celebrates the combined strength of both clubs, across both games.
The Cup goes to the club with the highest aggregate score from the women’s and men’s matchups. If each club gets one win, points differential becomes the decider. This isn’t just a game – it’s a whole-club contest.
The Cup itself is named in honour of two remarkable families who have helped shape basketball in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, it pays tribute to Margaret O’Connor, a Life Member of Diamond Valley Basketball Association, and Cathy Cukier, a Life Member of Eltham Basketball Club. The O’Connor and Cukier families have, for generations, been pillars of their respective clubs – embodying community spirit, loyalty, and dedication to the game.
Now in its latest chapter in 2025, the rivalry is as fierce as ever. Eltham currently holds the Cup after strong performances in 2024, and they’ll be looking to defend their title.
But make no mistake – Diamond Valley are out for redemption. With the women’s side sitting at 7th position on the ladder, a clear 7 spots higher than rivals Eltham, and the men’s team looking to climb back into form sitting 1 position higher, the Eagles are all fired up to bring the Cup back to the Valley and defend the Nest.
Be sure to secure your tickets today. This round sells out for a reason. Expect intensity, passion, and a display of on-court action like no other. This isn’t just basketball – it’s a battle for legacy.
