Roman Upton has been a referee for just over a year and four months, holding a B-grade level. His passion for basketball led him to refereeing, as it allowed him to deepen his understanding of the game while fitting around his schedule. In addition to refereeing, Roman plays basketball in both the Junior and Senior Domestic Competitions at DVBA.
Roman enjoys refereeing the U14 age group, as he finds it to be the most competitive and interesting. A highlight of his refereeing experience is meeting new people and making new friends within the community. However, staying calm and consistent throughout long days of officiating can be the most challenging part of the job for him.
Fun facts – In his downtime, Roman relaxes by listening to music and playing basketball with his mates. His favourite basketball player is Noah Cole, and his ideal holiday would be a trip to the Maldives with his family.
Congratulations to Roman of the Month of December, and we look forward to seeing all that he accomplishes in the future!
