At Diamond Valley (DV), basketball is more than a game. It’s a community, a pathway, and for some families, it’s a lifelong connection that spans generations.
Few families embody that spirit more than the Todd family.
From junior domestic and representative basketball through to coaching, leadership, state representation, college scholarships, and NBL1 competition, the Todd family’s connection to Diamond Valley Basketball Association stretches across decades and continues to grow.
Building the Foundation
For Marcus Todd, the journey began as a young player wearing Eagles colours in both junior representative basketball and domestic competition with Apollo.
Like many young Eagles, he developed lifelong friendships through the game, including touring Iowa under the guidance of DV legend Brian Harvey alongside teammates such as Ben Harvey, Dean Plummer and Sam McKinnon.
Marcus went on to enjoy an impressive playing career that took him from DV to the elite levels of Australian basketball.
After representing DV in the CVIBL competition, he moved to Bulleen at 20 years of age to compete in the SEABL before continuing his career with Broadmeadows. During that time, he competed at national finals level and played State League basketball against some of Australia’s biggest names, including matchups against Australian basketball icon Andrew Gaze.
Yet despite opportunities elsewhere, Diamond Valley remained home.
Marcus returned to the Eagles to finish his playing career as a player-coach within the Senior Men’s program from 2005 to 2007, leading the team to finals appearances each season and a runner-up finish in 2007.
His contribution to the association, however, extends far beyond his playing days.
Giving Back Through Coaching
For decades, Marcus has dedicated countless hours to developing young athletes across both domestic and representative basketball.
Beginning as a teenage coach with Apollo and later Greenhills, he has coached hundreds of players across boys’ and girls’ teams of all ages, from Under 8s through to championship divisions.
Among his many achievements were guiding the same core group of players to both Under 16 and Under 18 domestic premierships in the same season, while also leading representative teams to significant success.
His coaching highlights include:
- U14 Boys VC Runners-Up, Classic Tournament Champions and U14 Club Championships (National Champions) in 2015/16
- U16 Girls VC Reserve Premiership in 2021/22
- Assistant Coach of the NBL1 Men’s program in 2018 and 2019
- Assistant Coach of the Youth League Men’s program in 2020/21
His commitment to basketball and the Greenhills community was further recognised in 2024 when he was awarded Life Membership for his contributions as a player, coach, committee member and long-serving Vice President.
Following in Their Father’s Footsteps
For Noah and Delaney Todd, growing up around basketball meant growing up around Diamond Valley. Both began their journeys in Greenhills domestic basketball before progressing through the Eagles representative pathway, proving what is possible when talent, commitment and opportunity come together.
Noah Todd
Noah’s representative career began in the Under 12 program and has seen him progress through every stage of the Eagles pathway.
Along the way he was part of the highly successful U14 Boys team that finished VC Runners-Up, won the Classic Tournament and claimed the U14 Club Championships National title in 2015/16.
His development led to selection in numerous Basketball Victoria programs, including the Southern Cross Challenge, National Intensive Training Program and multiple years within the State Development Program.
Noah also earned Victorian state selection, representing Victoria at the U18 East Coast Challenge before being selected for the Victorian U20 National Championships teams in both 2021 and 2022.
His basketball journey then took him overseas, earning a scholarship to California State University, Monterey Bay.
Today, Noah continues to represent the Eagles through the Youth League and NBL1 programs while also giving back as a coach within both representative and domestic basketball.
Delaney Todd
Delaney has forged an equally impressive pathway through the Diamond Valley system.
Starting in Greenhills domestic basketball before progressing into the Eagles representative program, she has become one of the association’s emerging leaders both on and off the court.
A member of the 2021/22 U16 Girls VC Reserve Premiership team, Delaney also earned selection into Basketball Victoria’s State Development Program for three consecutive years and represented at the U16 Country Metro Challenge.
Her commitment and leadership have seen her progress into the Youth League Women’s program, where she was elected Captain in 2026, while also becoming a valued member of the Eagles NBL1 Women’s program across the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Her basketball achievements have been recognised internationally through a scholarship to the University of New Hampshire.
Like her father and brother, Delaney has also embraced coaching, helping develop the next generation of players through Greenhills Basketball Club.
More Than Basketball
The Todd family’s story reflects what makes Diamond Valley special.
It is a story of players becoming coaches, children following pathways forged by their parents, and a community that continues to support and develop people both on and off the court.
Across multiple generations, the Todd family has represented the Eagles with pride, contributed countless hours to developing others, and demonstrated what it truly means to be part of the Diamond Valley family.
Their legacy is not measured simply by games played, championships won, or representative honours earned.
It is measured by the impact they have had on teammates, players, coaches and the wider basketball community.
And as Noah and Delaney continue their journeys, the Todd family’s connection to Diamond Valley remains as strong as ever – proof that once you’re part of the Eagles family, you’re always part of the Eagles family.
